Menengai East MCA Wilson Mwangi has called on security agents in Nakuru to enhance patrols at night to weed out criminal gangs operating in the area.
Mwangi who regretted Wednesday’s incident in which a boda boda rider was stabbed with a sword that got stuck in his chest said residents had volunteered information to the police yet little had been done.
“The residents cannot even rare a chicken when they crow, the thieves go for them,” he said and continued: “These criminals normally ride on motorcycles and strike from 11 p.m., and terrorize the residents all night. We don’t care whether they are organized criminal gangs or individual petty thieves, all we demand is peace and security for our people,” the MCA regretted.
The rider’s health had been stabilized after he was attended to at Nakuru level 5 hospital, and the sword removed.
County Police Commander Samuel Ndanyi, on Tuesday, confirmed the resurgence of criminal gangs that were causing residents sleepless nights, promising to intensify security patrols. “We have managed to arrest 16 suspects and recovered assorted crude weapons and guns including fake guns,” said Ndanyi.
Nakuru city and parts of Nakuru West constituency have been the worst hit, with muggings and stabbings being witnessed in broad daylight.
