Man Charged for selling bhang to students

A middle-aged man accused of selling bhang to school going children was arraigned before a Kabarnet court charged with being in possession of 96 rolls of the drug substance.

Moses Lokwang was charged that on July 1, this month, at around 2.45pm at Marigat Township in Marigat Sub County was found in possession of the drugs weighing 1,200 grams with estimated street value of Sh 9,000.

According to a police report the accused was to supply the bhang to students who were breaking for their early July short holiday. In the process he was nabbed by hawk eyed officers who were on patrol that day within Marigat town.

Lokwang appeared before Senior Resident Magistrate (SRM) Caroline Ateaya and was charged with possessing cannabis sativa contrary to section 3(1) as read with section 3(2) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substance Control Act No.4 of 1994.

He pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to him. Ateaya ordered the accused to be granted personal bond of Sh 50,000 with one surety of the same amount or cash bail of Sh 20,000.

The case will come up for mention on July 18 and hearing slated for August 2 when three witnesses are expected to testify.
