Some education stakeholders in Narok County want president-elect Dr. William Ruto to put more resources in advancing the Competence Based Curriculum (CBC) to nurture the talents of learners.
Narok Blessed Schools’ headteacher Gidraph Ikenye said the system has helped to tap and grow the talents of the young learners, unlike the old system where there was a lot of paperwork.
With the new system in place, he said, learners have gained skills that have kept them engaged while at home. This is because CBC makes learning more practical and enjoyable.
“Today being the opening day, over 80 per cent of learners are back in school. This shows that the learners were anxious to return to school because learning is now more interesting,” he said.
Ikenye also called on all the elected leaders to support the CBC system by pumping more resources in schools.
Angela Naikuni, a parent of grade six and two pupils lauded the new system saying her children were busy making creative things as the country went to the elections.
“My young children have been making interesting things like cooking sticks, rabbit cages, mats, toys among others. They remained busy throughout the holiday season,” she said.
The CBC system was introduced in 2017 after it was developed by Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD).
CBC consist of 2-6-3-3-3 education cycle, where every learner shall transition through a minimum of 17 levels that are grouped in four general categories; Early years education, middle school, senior school and tertiary education
