Learners and members of public in Kajiado South Constituency have been urged to embrace a reading and writing culture.
While addressing the media on Wednesday at Imbirikani Secondary School in Loitoktok Sub County, CEO and Founder of Kenya Writing and Reading Culture, ( non-Governmental organization) Peris Siamanta said she started the foundation after realizing dwindling reading and writing culture not only in learning institutions but in general public.
Siamanta noted that the purpose of founding the organisation was to fast track the reading and writing culture in learning institutions as well as to the members of general public.
She noted that the number of Kenyan authors keeps going down owing to deaths hence those most featuring are authors from Tanzania.
Siamanta also noted that not only in Kajiado is there no reading and writing culture but also there are few libraries noting that her organisation is planning to set up a library in Loitoktok to boost reading culture.
The CEO who is an author said she has visited several schools in the Sub-County and has launched Kenya Writing and Reading Culture Clubs.
She also noted that apart from cultivating reading and writing culture in schools, her organisation is targeting to help the learners identify and develop their talents.
Isaac Zaiyoki, a commissioner in charge of scouts in Loitoktok and a member of the organisation urged the school heads and parents to embrace the initiative of the organisation adding that the program will keep the learners engaged hence avoiding being lured into in evil activities.
Imbirikani Secondary School Principal, Joseph Okumu appreciated the organisation for the program which is crucial in promoting education in learning institutions.
Okumu further noted that through the program the students will not only improve writing and reading skills but also their oratory skills.
