The marauding hyenas that attacked four people injuring two of them seriously in Sagar village Warsame location of ijara sub County were killed in order to contain the deaths of domestic animals.
According to Ijara warden Mr Adan Wario who spent two nights in the affected village the marauding hyenas were poisoned as the injured people were taken to Garissa County referral hospital for further treatment. The two who were slightly injured have been discharged from Shamsu hospital.
Wario said the hyenas may have invaded the villages in search of water at this time when there is a crippling drought in the area.
He called on villagers to avoid poisoning wild life but to report to KWS offices if they spot any wild life that would interfere with their day to day activities.
He said KWS had a clear mechanism to chase away the wild animals that disturb human beings and their property. He said they have written a proposal for funding in County and national government to avert human wildlife conflict.
