Tharaka Nithi elders and leaders are mourning the death of Kang’ori M’Thaara, a long serving chairman of the Njuri Ncheke.
He was also a member of Njuri Ncheke supreme council of Ameru elders’ and National governing council.
The elders Maara branch chairman Ngai Kanampiu said that the chairman died while receiving treatment at St Ann hospital, Igoji, Meru County.
According to Peter Rutere Njuri Ncheke, chairman Ganga Ward, the late M’Thaara was enjoying good health until Monday when he woke up with one of his hands paralyzed.
He was then rushed to hospital on the same evening where he was diagnosed with a brain tumor on the head and passed on Tuesday morning.
Rutere remembered him as a peace maker, a cultural man and a mentor to many.
“Apart from being a mentor to many in the region, he will be remembered for composing cultural songs sung during ceremonies,” said Rutere
Several leaders eulogized Mr. M’Thaara as a wise leader who pursued peace and served as chairman of Njuri Ncheke since the KANU era.
“We have lost a leader who was very passionate and articulate about Njuri Ncheke affairs, he has served the council for so many years and will be remember for his pursuance of peace among the community.”
Mr. M’Thaara will be remembered for his courage and fight for equality among the Ameru community as well as bringing harmony among political leaders for the betterment of the community.
The Tharaka community will also remember him as one of the Njuri Ncheke leaders who went to the state house in Nairobi and persuaded President Uhuru Kenyatta to grant establishment of Tharaka University.
Njuri Ncheke Muthambi chairperson Prof. Lawrence Mbae Mbijiwe said that M’Thaara was a good leader who brought a lot of impact to Maara and the entire county.
Tharaka Nithi governor and outgoing senator Kithure Kindiki mourned the fallen hero as a courageous leader who dedicated his life pushing for unity of the Ameru community and a patriotic elder of Ameru and Kenya at large.
“I would like to pass my condolences to the family and the entire Njuki Ncheke for losing a great leader,” said governor Muthomi.
Tharaka Nithi press club also eulogized M’Thaara, who will be buried at his home in Iruri, Ganga Ward, Maara constituency, as a close friend and a reliable source of news.
