Police Launches Probe over Attack of Secondary Teacher

Police in Rachuonyo East Sub-County have launched investigations into an attack on a secondary teacher at Kadongo trading Centre.

Elijah Opiyo Oyaya, a 30-year-old teacher at Got Rateng’ Secondary school was Wednesday attacked by unknown assailants while going home from his M-Pesa shop.

Speaking to KNA, the area Senior Chief, Moses Ongere, said that the teacher received some clients who deposited Sh10,000 after which he felt suspicious and closed the shop to proceed home, but was attacked on the way.

The teacher said three strangers on a motorcycle reportedly blocked his way and ordered him to hand over his money bag at gun point which he resisted, resulting in the assailants shooting him twice.

“The teacher was shot twice by live bullets, one on his thigh and the other on his leg, after he failed to hand over the money bag he was carrying,” said Ongere.

Oyaya was immediately taken to the nearest hospital, Okita Nursing Home in Kadongo for first aid after which he was later rushed to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital in Kisumu where he is set to undergo a surgery.

“He was immediately taken to the nearby hospital for first-aid by those who rescued him, but the situation worsened and he was rushed to Russia in Kisumu for further treatment,”, said the area chief.

The administrator assured residents of Kadongo of enhanced security in the area stating that a search for the assailants was mounted overnight by police officers, but to no avail, even as investigations commenced.

He also urged the residents to remain vigilant and watch over their neighbours, while landlords must vet their tenants.

The principal of Got Rateng Secondary school, Kenyatta Ochiewo condemned the attack of his fellow staff member.
