Rotary club Nakuru has pledged to support more than 300 people with various disabilities in Baringo County with assistive devices.
This is according to the organization’s President Rani Ramchandani who noted that quite a number of vulnerable people in the county are in dire need of support.
Speaking outside Governor’s office in Kabarnet town on Thursday when she handed over a consignment of wheelchairs and walking aids to assist children at Kabarnet school of Deafblind, Ramchandani said that his organization will continue supporting such people with tools in order to make their day to day living easier.
“We intend to donate more than 300 devices in Baringo as a way of helping them in their various settings,” said the rotary president who is also an ambassador of people living with disabilities.
She stated that they have partnered with other organizations like the Lions Club in order to increase the donations on a yearly basis until that time when quite a number of vulnerable people from the region are fully supported.
Governor Benjamin Cheboi who received the donations with the institution’s Principal Salina Binott thanked the Rotary Club for the generous donation stating that they have set a good example in touching the lives of the disadvantaged members of the society.
Cheboi said the six wheelchairs and 20 white canes given to the school will go a long way to enable the children to move freely while engaging with their studies.
He stated that his administration will continuously team up with partners and other charitable organisations in supporting institutions within the county where learners engage in various forms of training in life skills provision.
“My government is committed to ensuring that special schools across the county receive infrastructural, material and food support,” he reiterated.
He directed the county education department to move with speed and do a census of all young children with special needs in order for his administration to plan for interventions which are geared towards assisting them.
Cheboi urged residents in major towns and business professionals to pave the way for establishment of humanitarian service clubs within their area to boost in holding of meetings, identification and mapping of all people who need help.
