Parents of St Joseph Gul Kagembe Mixed Secondary School in Rangwe Constituency, Homa Bay County have protested against alleged mismanagement of the institution.
Parents who blocked the school gate to bar the Principal from accessing the learning institution accused him of mismanaging the school leading to poor academic results.
They also lamented over alleged lack of clear records of how funds amounting to Sh 864, 000 meant for infrastructural development of the school was spent.
The parents accused the Principal of ineptitude saying his leadership style has contributed to many students transferring to other schools thus reducing the student population in the school.
“When the school started, we had 210 students but since the Principal took over the number of students has reduced to 110,” said one of the parents.
The Principal was also accused of using corporal punishment on pupils against government regulations. “Students are beaten in school and the local primary school leavers are enrolling in other schools because they fear beatings in this school,” claimed one of the parents.
Enraged parents told KNA that the school was constructed through a fundraising and accused the Principal of being unable to give clear records of how the money they raised was spent.
“It has been one year since we conducted our fundraising and we have not seen any development. We have reported the matter to the Ministry of Education Sub County office in Rangwe.
Attempts to reach the Principal was futile as his phone went unanswered.
County Director of Education in Eunice Khaemba said that they have received the complaints of the parents and villagers and they have contacted the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to investigate the issue and get to the bottom of the matter.
