Three men commit suicide in Makueni County

Three men committed suicide by hanging themselves in three separate incidences in Makueni County on Wednesday night.

In the first incident, James Musee Lucia (22) committed suicide after he locked himself in his uncle’s house and hanged himself using a rope at 7pm at Mutanda village, Kithangathinu Sublocation, Kikoko location in Kilungu Sub-county.

The man is alleged to have hanged himself following family issues which he explained in a suicide note left behind but whose contents the police didn’t disclose saying they’re still conducting investigations in the case.

“Police officers visited the scene and established from the preliminary investigations that the man took his life due to family-related issues as per the suicidal note he left behind,” said Makueni County Deputy Police Commander Mr. Nzioka Matasia who confirmed the incident to KNA on Thursday.

He disclosed that the man locked himself in his uncle’s house namely Fr. Joseph Mbolu of Matiliku Parish. The body of the deceased was taken to the Kilungu Sub-County Hospital mortuary for preservation awaiting a post mortem.

In the second incident, Festus Kioko Muinde (26) a resident of Kyanguu village, Kawala location in Nzaui Sub-county also hanged himself using a rope inside a house where his lifeless body was found dangling from the roof at 10pm on Wednesday.

The body was taken to Kilome Nursing Home Hospital mortuary for preservation awaiting autopsy.

In the third incident, the lifeless body of Peter Mutuku Kinyumu (55), a resident of Usalala village in Ngoni Sub location, Kisau location of Mbooni East Sub-county was found suspended from a tree trunk at 6am on Thursday morning about one kilometre from his homestead.

The body was discovered by his nephew Musila Munywoki (37) but there was no suicide note left behind.

The deputy county police commander disclosed that they are investigating the incident in which the deceased’s house had been set on fire earlier at around 2am on Thursday.

Alice Kinyumu (85) mother to the deceased said she was woken up by a popping sound of fire only to discover that it was her son’s house on fire.

Matasia said that the body of the deceased was taken to Tawa funeral Home mortuary for preservation awaiting a post-mortem.

Cases of suicide especially among the youth are on the increase in Makueni County with four cases reported in the last week of September.
