Ford Kenya party stifles democracy and kills people’s political careers, aspirant claims

A candidate in the Bungoma County Senatorial race Robert Sifuna who was initially vying on a Ford Kenya party has moved to Roots Party.

Sifuna said Fork Kenya was imposing aspirants on the people rather than conducting free and fair nominations.

In an Interview with journalists in Bungoma Town, Sifuna said that he decided to ditch Ford Kenya and join Prof. George Wajackoyah’s Roots Party to seek election as Bungoma Senator in December when a by election will be held.

The aspirant argued that Ford Kenya is not a democratic party. “I moved to Roots Party because I want a party that is democratic and sticks to its constitution without favouring some individuals like is happening in Ford Kenya, Ford Kenya is not a party to grow young politicians instead it exploits them,” Sifuna noted.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) on Friday announced that Bungoma electorate will vote on December 8 to pick a senator to replace former senator Moses Wetang’ula.

“The date of the by- election has already been announced by the IEBC, I am ready to battle with other aspirants including the Ford Kenya one,” Sifuna added.

Sifuna said the reason why residents have not been voting for Ford Kenya is because of its constant lies and imposing of leaders. “I am going to make Bungoma the Roots party stronghold, we can’t be led by one party forever, we need change,” he said.

He said that Wajackoya will come to Bungoma and help in campaigning for him to ensure that he woos voters.

“I met my party leader George Wajackoyah and discussed strategies to make sure that we win this seat, time has come for change,” he said, adding that he will crisscross the entire county asking for votes.

“We will work together in developing the county through initiation of development projects which will offer jobs to the youth and women,” he said.

“I will work together with residents in developing the county through agriculture, we need farmers to get cheap farm inputs that will guarantee them good returns,” the aspirant said.

So far the vacant senatorial seat has attracted over 15 aspirants, who include Wetang’ula’s aide Wafula Wakoli, businessman Joseph Lendrix Waswa and Jacob Machacha, Rev.Herman Kasili, lawyer Erick Nakhurenya, Former Bumula MP Mwambu Mabonga among others.
