The Muslim Community in Homa Bay through Supreme Council of Kenya Muslim (SUPKEM) have cried foul over appointment of County Executive Committee Members (CECM) saying that they have been excluded in governance.
Speaking to the press Wednesday, the county SUPKEM Secretary General Nuhu Abdul said that they are not happy with the appointments of the CECMs by Governor Gladys Wanga.
“We have been crying foul every now and then that Muslims have been excluded in government appointments but no one listens,” said Abdul.
This comes a day after the county government of Homa Bay County appointed CECM as they await for vetting by the County Assembly.
Abdul said that Muslims were also excluded in the list of nominated Members of County Assembly.
The Secretary General pleaded with both the National and the county governments to include them in the governance.
Abdul said that many Muslims were educated, competent men and women who can contribute to the development if given the opportunity.
“We feel left out in the governance, we want the national and the county government to know that we have qualified, competent men and women and should be given opportunities to prove themselves,” he said.
