Homabay County Secretary General of the Supreme Council for Muslims in Kenya (SUPKEM) Mr. Nuhu Masoud, has called on religious leaders to educate their faithful about the importance of planting trees on their farms.
The leader said every individual needed to play a part in tree planting to address climate change that has affected everyone the world over, adding that religious leaders were at a vantage point to encourage their faithful on the same.
“The weather has become unreliable and has affected food production leading to hunger,” he said
“I call upon all religious leaders regardless of their faith to plant trees, lets us encourage one another to plant trees every time there is rain,” the SUPKEM leader said.
The leader was speaking immediately after planting 520 tree seedlings at Kendu Bay police station compound in honour of his late sister mama Sarah Obama, grandmother to former United States of America president Barrack Obama.
“I am doing the exercise in my own capacity and on behalf of my own family, on behalf of Sarah Obama, and on behalf of Supkem and even on behalf of Muslims in Homabay County,” he said
Masoud said he will carry out similar exercise in Kogelo police station which is next to Mama Sarah’s home in Siaya County.
The leader earlier distributed 300 seedlings to people in Kendu bay town.
