A police officer who allegedly stole his colleague’s AK 47 rifle at Maralal police station line was arraigned before a Maralal court.
The accused, Police Constable Peter Mutembei was charged together with two women accomplices Alice Wanjiru and Kanana John that on the night of June 4, 2022, jointly with others not before court, they broke and entered the house of Police Constable (PC) Lawrence Lekinit and stole an AK 47 rifle of serial number 5504745 valued at Sh103,000.
The charge sheet further read that the rifle was loaded with a magazine containing 30 rounds of ammunition property of the Kenya Police Service which was issued to PC Lawrence Lekinit for official duties.
The accused was arrested on the night of June 9, 2022 after police searched his house and found the stolen firearm in the ceiling.
However, the three accused pleaded not guilty when they appeared before Maralal Senior Resident Magistrate James Wanyanga on June 9, 2022.
The court released them on a Sh150,000 bond and a surety of a similar amount until the mention which was set for June 30 and the hearing on August 3, 2022.
