Embu County Government has revoked licenses of two bars found selling alcohol to students on Sunday evening in Runyenjes town in Embu East Sub-County.
Governor Cecily Mbarire said her administration would not allow rogue operators to destroy the lives of children in the name of making profit.
“We want these two bars to serve as an example that we will not allow bar operators to sell alcohols to minors,” Mbarire said.
She however clarified that they were not criminalizing the trade, but insisting that it must be carried out in strict adherence to the laid down laws with regard to where, when and to whom should alcohol be sold to.
She was speaking at Embu University grounds when she oversaw issuance of cheques to various farmers’ groups amounting to Sh125.87 million being grants from National Agricultural and Rural Inclusive Growth Project.
Her sentiments were echoed by County Commissioner Stephen Kihara who said they would not hesitate to close down all bars flouting laws governing the business.
Those who want to continue doing this business must do so with the right clientele Kihara warned even as he called on parents to take keen interest in day to day affairs of their children to curb such acts of minors going to bars.
