Corporates offer free medical camp in Meru

Jubilee health insurance company, Solution Sacco and Aga Khan Hospital have initiated a free medical camp in Meru county to encourage residents establish their health status during the seven-days event.

The check-ups will be at the Sacco branches in Chuka, Nkubu, Meru, Nanyuki, Timau, and Maua.

Speaking during the launch, Jubilee health insurance Chief Executive Officer Ms Njeri Jomo said the exercise was one of the ways of helping the residents overcome their health uncertainties and improve their quality of life.

“For a long time, people have sought health care when they fall sick which compromises treatment outcomes as the diseases are detected too late, noted Jomo.

We want to inculcate the culture of regular check-ups to the residents so they can improve the quality of their lives,” said Jomo.

She said some of the check-ups that were being carried out include Body Mass Index (BMI), Blood Pressure, Breast cancer, eye check-up, as well as free consultation and drug prescription.

“We are confident the drive will help the residents monitor their health issues and avoid chronic diseases in the future,” said Jomo.

Aga Khan Hospital Director for community engagement Ms Pauline Ngatia called on the residents to visit the seven centres in large numbers and interact with the medical team who will be available and open to serve them during the period.

She said out of the 500 people that were checked during the first day, about ten women were found with abnormalities in their breasts and were referred for further attention, whereas 60 of them were given prescriptions.

Solution Sacco’s Deputy Chief Executive Officer Ms Esther Ebuthania said the institution was passionate to offer health education to the community and its members and this has informed them to form Solution Afya, a product that will provide health solutions to its members.

“As an institution, we will continue to form strategic partnerships with healthcare providers in order to ensure that our members receive unlimited healthcare in line with Universal Health Care,” said Ebuithania.
