Bomet county government has signed a memorandum of understanding with Kenya Medical Training Centre over the support of the Bomet campus.
Governor Hillary Barchok, who led the signing ceremony at the county headquarter, said they wanted to commit the administration by supporting the institution to realize its mandate by training quality health practitioners.
He added that they wanted to create synergy in the institution by volunteering their staff to teach at the KMTC.
“The KMTC Bomet campus based at Longisa County Referral Hospital is a significant institution in our county in many aspects including academic, health and economic realms of our society,” explained Governor Barchok.
While admitting that the facility at Bomet is undergoing challenges, the governor said they would provide a good learning environment to all the students.
The county boss said he is aware that the facility has inadequate learning structures and that he would talk to all the MPs in the county to consider allocating money for the KMTC from the CDF kitty.
“We are cognizant of the challenges the institution has been going through and my administration is going to work with the KMTC governing body to help it achieve its full potential,” affirmed Barchok.
He added that the county government would chip into classroom construction to provide more learning space for the growing number of students joining the institution.
On his part, KMTC Board of Directors Chairperson Ambassador Zachary Muburi said they decided to put brains together with the local county administration on how best they can improve the learning facility since the campus is facing challenges of understaffing and lack of enough infrastructure.
He added that they would continue to partner, cooperate with the Bomet county government, and find innovative ways in which they will admit more students and courses.
Muburi also noted that they were currently engaging the National Assembly, Health ministry and Treasury to ensure the institution provides quality education to the health workers.
