Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Amb Raychelle Omamo, Monday 28, 2022 met with Ms. Amina J. Mohammed, UN Deputy Secretary General during the ongoing United Nations Environment Assembly at Gigiri, Nairobi.
The Cabinet Secretary underscored the importance of strengthening of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), and the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UNHabitat). She said the two institutions are critical to the realization of the envisaged aspirations of the UN Decade of Action, Ocean Decade and Decade of Ecosystem Restoration, COP27 as well as the resumed part of the Convention on Biodiversity COP15.
C.S Omamo further affirmed, Kenya’s commitments towards global peace and security, including the fight against terrorism. She thanked the UN for the establishment of the United Nations Office of Counterterrorism Regional Office in Nairobi which will be officially launched on 9th March, 2022.
She also commended the ongoing efforts by the UNOCT to strengthen international cooperation in building counter-terrorism capacities and providing Member States with technical assistance to combat terror threats.
