Africa is a continent that is rich in culture, history, and diversity, but it is also a food
lover’s paradise. The diverse culinary cultures of Africa have long been a draw for global
celebrities, and this is certainly true for British actor, singer and DJ Idris Elba and his
wife, model and activist Sabrina Elba.
In a recent interview with Ebony magazine, the Elbas listed Mama Oliech Restaurant in
Nairobi as one of their favorite places to go to on the African continent.
Mama Oliech is a popular fish-eating restaurant in the Kilimani neighborhood of
Nairobi, and the Elbas highly recommend ordering the traditional Kenyan dish of ugali
with fried fish and a side of kachumbari.
Despite their busy schedules, Idris and Sabrina have a deep connection to Africa and
make a point to connect with the continent and its people whenever they can.
Idris, who was born to a Ghanaian mother and Sierra Leonean father, and Sabrina, who
has Somali roots, both have African blood running deep in their veins.
They often visit Kenya, Sierra Leone and Ghana, and take advantage of their business
trips to explore and experience the best of what the continent has to offer.
Idris, who calls himself a “proud African,” is known for his philanthropy and for
highlighting the issues and talents of Africa.
He and Sabrina, who also have a deep connection to Africa, are true ambassadors of the
continent and its culture, and they encourage others to experience all that Africa has to
offer.
