Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Investments, Trade, and Industry, Moses Kuria, has revealed that he has met 11 presidents in the month of February alone. Kuria was appointed by President William Ruto as a special envoy to rekindle trade relations with Kenya’s business partners. Among the 11 presidents he met with was the retired Tanzanian leader, Jakaya Kikwete.
The meetings aimed to revive stalled trade projects between Kenya and its respective countries, some of which have been stuck for some time. Kuria stated that only presidential-level decisions would unlock these projects. He has also travelled to major business cities around the world to benchmark with the world’s leading economies.
In addition to his efforts to improve trade relations with Kenya’s business partners, Kuria has set up new offices at Two Rivers Mall, an upscale shopping complex in Nairobi. The purpose of these offices is to give global investors a world-class taste of the country. According to Kuria, the Trade ministry headquarters at the NSSF Building in the central business district did not make the cut as a world-class facility offering investors the environment needed to leave them with an ideal impression of the country.
Kuria noted that he had seen how business moguls are treated in other countries to entice them to invest, and he intends to provide a similar environment in Kenya. He aims to give investors an environment that ranks equivalent to that of other countries, such as the US and Europe.
The meetings with the 11 presidents and the establishment of the new offices are part of Kuria’s efforts to improve Kenya’s economic standing and business environment. With his work as a special envoy and the creation of these new offices, Kuria hopes to create a welcoming environment for investors and boost Kenya’s economy.
