The family of Sharon Jepkosgei Kigen, who drowned in River Georges Macquarie, Australia, while swimming with friends on February 21, 2023, is appealing for support to raise Sh5million to bring her body back to Kenya. Sharon, a Kapsabet Girls alumnus, had gone to Australia to pursue a post-graduate degree in Information Technology at Catholic University in North Sydney. She had secured a study scholarship, and her parents had disposed of a piece of land to support her travel, living and part of the study expenses. The family had also raised some Sh2.5 million from a fundraiser to help manage the costs. Sharon’s death occurred five days before she was scheduled to start classes. She had settled with her relatives in Australia and secured a part-time job. Her body was retrieved by emergency response officers. Sharon’s family is seeking financial support to bring her body home for burial.
