The Kenyan government has issued emergency hotline numbers for Kenyans living and working in Sudan, as the country experiences escalating violence. At least 200 people have been killed in the ongoing conflict, and the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs is preparing to evacuate around 3,000 Kenyans from Sudan if the situation worsens. The government has set up a technical team to monitor the situation and provide humanitarian assistance and emergency evacuation if needed. While no Kenyan casualties have been reported, citizens are advised to remain indoors and monitor the situation. The conflict in Sudan is a result of a power struggle within the country’s military leadership, with the army and the Rapid Support Forces both claiming control over key sites in the capital, Khartoum. The violence began last week, and Sudan has been under military rule since the 2019 coup that overthrew President Omar al-Bashir.
