A 16-year-old girl was on Wednesday stabbed to death by her female friend at Mulot trading centre, Bomet County, following a disagreement over the ownership of a memory card.
In a shocking incident that has left villagers traumatized and shaken, the juvenile stabbed her age mate on the left side of her chest killing her instantly.
Initial Police reports indicated that the deceased, a green grocer by profession, was in possession of the said memory card when the suspect accosted her but she refused to hand it over.
The report further indicated that the suspect snatched a knife from the victim, which she was using to hew vegetables, before using it to stab her in the chest.
Efforts to rush the deceased to the hospital proved futile after doctors at Longisa County referral hospital confirmed her dead on arrival.
Confirming the incident, Bomet East sub-county Police commander Francis Kigeri affirmed to the public that the suspect has been arrested and is currently in custody at Mulot police station, being processed for arraignment.
“We arrested the suspect immediately with the help of members of the public. She is in our custody, and meanwhile, detectives have widened the scope of their investigations on this matter to establish how it happened considering they are under age,” said Kigeri, adding “the suspect will be arraigned in court to face the law.”
The deceased’s body has since been moved to the Longisa County Referral Hospital mortuary while investigations into the incident continue.
In the recent past, Mulot town has gained notoriety as a haven for mobile money fraudsters, with a majority of suspects engaged in the fast-spreading vice having been arrested in the area.
