A Murang’a court on Monday fined a middle-aged woman Sh. 10,000 or in default serve a two-month sentence after she admitted charges of selling alcohol without a valid license.
Miriam Wanjiru who appeared before Senior Principal magistrate, Edwin Nyaga was charged that on July 9 in Gitau shopping centre in Murang’a County, she was found selling alcohol in a Murang’a bar, without a license.
According to the prosecution’s report, Wanjiru was arrested at around 7:55 pm by police officers from the local station selling a barrel of ‘Keg’ and a crate of assorted alcohol at the bar.
The barrel of ‘Keg’ and a crate of assorted alcohol found in her possession was presented in court as exhibit to the case.
Wanjiru admitted to the charges and pleaded for leniency saying she will obtain the necessary licenses if given another chance to reform.
In consideration of the facts of the case, the magistrate fined the accused Sh. 10,000 or in default serve two months in prison.
