One person died on the spot Monday night after a vehicle she was traveling in got involved in an accident along the busy Nairobi -Namanga highway.
According to the police, the driver of the private vehicle which was traveling from Isinya towards Kajiado town hit a stationary truck on the road near Shell Petrol station around 11pm yesterday night.
The deceased, wife to Kajiado Central Legislator Memusi Kanchori, died on the spot while the driver escaped with minor injuries.
County Police Commander Muthuri Mwongera confirmed the incident adding that the driver must have been at a high speed as he hit the truck at a high impact.
He urged motorists to avoid speeding and exercise extra caution on the road especially at night.
“The accident occurred after the private vehicle traveling from Isinya towards Kajiado town rammed onto a stationary truck. The lady passenger died instantly while the driver escaped with minor injuries,” said Mwongera.
He noted that the stationary truck had not put up any signs to warn motorists of an obstruction on the road adding that this was an offence and they were searching for the driver of the truck.
The Police Commander warned drivers to ensure that any vehicle that breaks down on the road is towed or moved aside and warning signs put on the road to warn other motorists.
The body of the deceased was moved to the Kajiado County Referral Hospital while the driver was treated at the same hospital for minor injuries and discharged.
