Amazon Web Services (AWS) in collaboration with the Ministry of Education Tuesday hosted educational technology experts and leading professionals at the inaugural AWS Kenya Education conference 2022.
Local, national, and regional leaders are re-imagining education systems, skills training and private-public partnerships to help individuals to live prosperous lives in the digital age.
According to Mr. Robin Njiru, the AWS regional public sector lead for West, East, and Central Africa, AWS is on a duty to hasten the digital transformation of education.
“Amazon Web Services is on a mission to accelerate the digital transformation of education collaboration with Kenya’s education community and is committed to improve the quality of education by providing flexible, affordable technology solutions for education,” said Njiru.
He claimed that AWS collaborates with governments and other organizations globally to upskill, reskill, and prepare people for jobs in the cloud today and in the future.
At the same time, AWS Senior Educational Program Manager Marine Houmeau said that AWS and the Ministry of IC&DE have joined forces to provide free foundational cloud content through Ajira Digital platform accessible to all citizens as well as in over 300 training centers across the country from early 2023.
“Amazon Web Services together with partners like Ajira Digital, MasterCard Foundation and GetINNOtized, are building an inclusive and diverse pipeline of new cloud talent in Sub-Saharan Africa by engaging unemployed or underemployed young people who otherwise might not have had access to this career path,” said Houmeau.
She added that for over fifteen years, AWS has been the world’s most comprehensive and broadly adopted cloud offering and has been continually expanding its services to support virtually any cloud workload.
Also speaking at the event was the AWS Digital Skills Program Manager Yazeed Sheqem who revealed that AWS signed new partnerships with local training partners Computer Learning Center (CLC), Moringa School and Zalego Academy to train underemployed and unemployed youth for high-quality jobs in the technology sector.
