Orange Democratic Movement leadership has been urged to appreciate competition amongst Azimio la Umoja coalition parties, as a way of curbing voter apathy during the next general election.
Siaya gubernatorial candidate, Nicholas Gumbo and his running mate, David Ohito said that sibling rivalry within Azimio will ensure high voter turnout within the coalition’s strongholds, thus ensuring victory for the coalition presidential candidate, Raila Odinga.
Speaking at Nyalenya village in Ugenya sub county during a thanksgiving service for journalist David Ohito who was appointed as Gumbo’s running mate in place of former police spokesman, Charles Owino who was recalled back to service, Gumbo said that his candidature for the Siaya gubernatorial seat would reduce the number of voters who fail to turn up to cast their ballots to between 2,000 and 3,000.
He said that his party, United Democratic movement (UDM) was a key member of the alliance and was committed to contributing to the victory of Raila Odinga.
Gumbo called for fairness within the coalition, saying that every party within the coalition must be allowed to compete within their ability.
On Siaya politics, Gumbo said that the county cannot be used as a dumping ground for political retirees, and urged the local residents to vote for leaders who can make positive change in their lives.
His running mate, David Ohito said Siaya risked stagnating in development if the locals fail to make the right choices during the next general elections.
“Siaya is known to produce heroes and leaders with the best brains globally. We cannot allow it to go under,” he said.
Former Rarieda legislator, Nicholas Gumbo was this week forced to appoint a new running mate after the former police spokesman, Charles Owino dropped from the race midway after the national police services rejected his request for early retirement.
The duo was to run for Siaya governorship on the United democratic movement (UDM) ticket to face off with Orange democratic movement (ODM) party’s James Orengo.
