Audit reveals about 38 percent county employees have no files

A human resource audit by the Vihiga County Public Service Board has revealed that 1,191 of the 3,122 employees translating to 38 percent of the workforce are irregularly employed.

These workers, who do not have workstations and have no personal files draw over Sh35.6 million in salaries every month.

Governor Dr. Wilber Ottichilo ordered the audit with a view to identifying questionable workers who would be cleansed from the payroll to bring down the recurrent expenditure.

The exercise also unearthed cases of stagnation of employees in one job group for over five years in some instances.

Ottichilo said genuine employees would be re-designated and promoted following the due process upon the implementation of the recommendations.

The report established that the county spends about Sh213 million in salaries and other emoluments for employees every month.
