Bishop Dominic Kimengich of the Eldoret Catholic Diocese has cautioned priests to be wary against the love for money saying this is a major challenge facing the Church today.
Noting that priests are called to serve the people of God, Bishop Kimengich told priests to be different from other leaders who look for positions to make money adding that if they want to make money, then they should seek careers outside the church.
The prelate was speaking Friday when he presided over the ordination of seven deacons into priesthood in the first ever ordination ceremony to be held in Elgeyo Marakwet at the Iten KMTC grounds.
Bishop Kimengich advised priests to detach themselves from worldly things which draw them away from serving God saying they should trust the Almighty to provide for them their daily needs.
The bishop also called on them to be gentle when dealing with the faithful saying dictatorship had no place in church urging them to be good shepherds when herding the flock.
Hundreds of Christians from the diocese braved the chilly weather to attend the ceremony which was also attended by Governor Wisley Rotich, Senator William Kipsang, Keiyo North MP Adams Kipsanai and Uaisn Gishu deputy governor Eng. John Barorot among others.
The seven priests were drawn from Uasin Gishu, Nandi and Elgeyo Marakwet counties which form the Eldoret diocese.
