Residents of Kiandugira village in Kigumo, Murang’a are in shock after the body of an elderly woman who had gone missing was found dumped in a thicket.
According to Agnes Njoki, one of the deceased’s family members, 90-year-old Mary Njeri had gone to the farm where she was tending to her crops but never came back home.
Njeri is said to have gone missing on Thursday evening only for her body to be discovered on Sunday evening.
Njoki said that when it became dark and Njeri had not returned, family members became worried and embarked on a physical search around the farm but she was nowhere to be found.
“We searched the whole area looking for her but we didn’t find her,” Njoki said.
According to Njoki, the family later got a rude shock after reports reached them that their kin had been found murdered in cold blood and her body dumped in a thicket.
“The body was naked and had several visible injuries and it appears like the culprits had raped her before killing her,” Njoki narrated.
“We don’t know who could have done such a heinous act but we are calling for speedy investigations to bring the suspects to book,” she pleaded.
Residents strongly condemned the horrible act and attributed it to increased drug abuse in the area claiming the act could have been done by drug addicts.
“No one in their right senses would attack an elderly woman, rape and kill her,” said Grace Wanjiku a resident. “We urge police to hasten investigations and arrest those involved in this gruesome murder,” Wanjiku added.
