Mrs. Linet Matiang’i, wife to interior and coordination of national government cabinet secretary (CS) Dr. Fred Matiang’i has donated sanitary pads to over 400 students of Nyandoche Ibere Girls Secondary School, in Borabu Sub County, Nyamira County.
Health permanent secretary (PS) Ms.Susan Mochache, issued the pads to students on behalf of the Mrs. Matiang’i during a function held at the school grounds on Friday.
The PS highlighted the necessity of taking care of the needs of the girl child including access to safe and hygienic menstrual pads, services and facilities.
The donation comes a day before the world observed a world menstrual hygiene that is meant to light up menstrual hygiene.
“Menstrual hygiene is an issue worthy discussing and addressing key issues surrounding this matter. To this end it should be made a normal fact of life,” she added
Ms. Mochache hinted on the need for the male gender to get knowledge on menstruation and change the perception towards it and not view it as a laughing stock.”
“The donation will lessen the cost burden of buying the pads and at least serve for some time before getting another. Our girls will be comfortable and carry on with their studies with minimal disturbances,” she added.
She challenged students to work hard and realize their plight in society and aim higher towards attaining their goals in life.
She further encouraged students to follow the footsteps of women in leadership for them to be successful.
The function was aimed at injecting Sh10 million to aid in the completion of a two storey dormitory in the school.
Ms. Mochache was accompanied by CS for Interior and Coordination of National Government Dr.Fred Matiangi and CS for Transport, Infrastructure, Housing and Urban development, James Macharia.
Other leaders present during the function were: Nyamira County Governor Amos Nyaribo, Nyamira Deputy Governor Dr. James Gesami, Borabu Member of Parliament Hon Ben Momanyi and Nyamira County Woman representative, Jerusha Momanyi.
