Devolution and Empowerment Party (DEP) popularly known as Bus has trashed rumors that it is on the verge of breaking ties with Azimio Coalition to join Kenya Kwanza.
National Chairman Lenny Kivuti said it was absurd for someone to think that the Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi-led party was going to decamp to another coalition.
“Never ever, we are in the Bus and the government to stay,” Kivuti stated on Monday when he received tens of defectors from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
Majority of the defectors were supporters of Manyatta MP John Muchiri who lost during the nominations claiming that the process was marred with massive cases of irregularities.
The Bus party has been reaping from the wave of defections sweeping across the county following the protested nominations.
“I want to promise those joining us that they will find safety, rule of law and happiness in Bus,” said Kivuti, who is also eyeing the Embu Gubernatorial seat.
He exuded confidence that the party will win many seats in the county in the August 9 polls even as he promised to transform the financial fortunes of the county once elected as governor.
Last week Kivuti unveiled his running mate, businessman Joseph Ireri Nyaga, setting stage for a contest with UDA’s candidate Cecily Mbarire and Emilio Kathuri of Jubilee Party.
