Machakos County Ministry of health has pledged to offer quality health services in all hospitals in order to improve the county’s health sector which has deteriorated in the past couple of years.
While addressing the press at Kangundo Level 4 Hospital after an impromptu visit at the Hospital to inspect health services, Machakos County Executive Committee member for health Dr. Daniel Yumbya stated that they will ensure residents get quality services and drugs are supplied in the proper way.
“We have started our inspection, this is the first one, I give a notice to all hospital administrators, ensure you make orders of all the materials and medications needed, don’t buy drugs which are not needed, follow the right process and request only the most needed medical supplies,” said Yumbya.
The CEC issued a stern warning to uncommitted workers, especially the medical specialists who absconded duty that they will not be tolerated and likewise asked cleaners to make use of the rain water tapped in tanks and keep the hospital tidy since the level 4 facility serves patients from different places.
“This hospital has 15 medical specialists, but we have only found four at work today, we don’t know the whereabouts of the rest, I call upon all the health workers in the whole county, weather a cleaner, a receptionist, a nurse, a doctor, whichever your position according to your employment letter, serve the people,” said Yumbya.
Yumbya also cautioned the workers and management of all county hospitals against selling government medical supplies to privately owned chemists as well as referring patients for laboratory tests to other clinics.
He further urged the county assembly to consider the health sector in the next budget to ensure that every level 2 hospital in the wards have at least a doctor and the necessary medications in order to decongest the level 5 and 4 facilities.
Yumbya urged the residents to commit themselves to paying National Insurance Fund (NHIF) which provides a range of healthcare coverage to lower medical expenses.
