Nyandarua County Chief of staff, Peter Thiari, has discounted claims that Chief Officers had been sacked saying they are on normal leave.
Thiari said the officers had been directed to take their pending leave days to save taxpayers from compensating them for the same, in the event that they would not be retained by Governor Moses Badilisha’s regime.
“The officers are still on the payroll and will earn their salary at the end of the month. They were just asked to take their pending leave days because the County will not compensate them for the same,” Thiari said.
Last week, the Githabai Ward MCA, Rimui Kaiyani raised a cmplaint over the recent move by the County government to send several of the officers on leave, citing malice amidst advertisement of the posts.
Kaiyani sought a statement on the matter from the chairperson of the Committee on Public Service, Administration and Devolution Wambugu King’ori, saying the Assembly had not been appraised of the details of the move including reasons for the leaves, and whether they were informed by any disciplinary actions.
“Chief Officers are appointed with approval of the Assembly, to among other things, be the accounting officers of their departments and hence the Assembly should be involved in any action taken against them,” the MCA said, adding the statement he sought should indicate why the chief officer for Agriculture was exempted from the action.
“This House should be furnished with terms of service for each chief officer,” the Githabai MCA who is serving his second term said.
