Hit hard by the ravaging drought and loss of their only source of livelihood, many families in Kajiado had no plans to celebrate Christmas this year.
The situation however changed for at least 30,000 families after Rubi foundation offered food stuff to the vulnerable households.
Speaking while flagging off the relief food distribution, Kajiado Governor Joseph ole Lenku said that the supplies will be distributed to 1,000 families in all the 25 wards and several other vulnerable groups.
” On behalf of the people of Kajiado, I want to thank the Rubi Foundation for their timely donations. Most families have suffered immensely for three months now due to the drought situation as they have lost their source of livelihood so the food donations will come in handy,” said ole Lenku.
The governor revealed that the County government of Kajiado signed a memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Rubi foundation a month ago for cooperation in several matters including relief food donations during periods of drought and development matters in water and the agricultural sectors.
The governor added that the foundation will be giving out food donations to the Kajiado people every month until the drought situation is over.
He urged the Members of County assemblies, the Ward representatives and village administrators to ensure that the relief food is distributed to the relevant families.
