The Ishaqbini Conservancy based in Ijara Sub County has distributed 30 biogas jikos to 30 Households in the first phase to offset the cutting of trees in the constituency.
Speaking to KNA on phone Ishaqbini Conservancy Manager Ahmed Noor disclosed that the biogas to the Households in phase one will address climate change initiative and ensure that the using of charcoal and firewood is minimised by the residents.
He said the biogas jikos use cow and goat dung to avoid felling of trees in the constituency and with less smoke improve the health of people who would otherwise inhale the carbon dioxide and smoke from firewood used by the community.
The manager said if the trees are protected, the wildlife will be safe and can be conserved accordingly especially the hirola antelope which is found only in Ijara in the whole world.
Mr Noor said the programme will reach the entire constituency.
Ishaqbini conservancy was created to conserve the environment and the fauna and flora and endangered species of the hirola antelope, giraffes, birds, hyenas which had been a problem to the people and other endangered wildlife that stray to family causing human/ wildlife conflict.
