Uganda’s famous and controversial musician, Jose Chameleone, has finally responded
to the backlash he received for whipping a boda boda (motorbike taxi) rider last week.
In an interview with the Ugandan media, the singer said that he respects boda boda
riders but acknowledges that there are bad people in every business. He went on to
praise a certain boda boda company, SafeBoda, for sponsoring the event and for
respecting their job. Chameleone expressed his regret at the way he had handled
himself, but stated that he and the rider were both human.
Chameleone had previously released a statement through his public relations team,
saying he hit the boda rider in self-defense and apologized to fans. He also alleged that
the rider had damaged the left side of his Range Rover.
The incident has sparked outrage, with Chameleone’s wife, Danielle Atim, demanding
justice for the boda boda driver who was hit and stating that there should be no
tolerance for violence.
Even the police have been asked to launch a probe into the matter.
