The Kakamega County Government will collaborate with Members of the National Assembly in improving infrastructure in learning institutions across the region.
Governor Fernandes Barasa said he will lay a strong foundation in the education sector through continuous establishment of more ECDE centres and well equipped County Technical Training and vocational institutions (TTCs).
“We will also have well trained instructors to teach and meet the learner-tutor ratio in TTCs and ECDE centres by collaborating with local MPs,” he said.
This comes after education stakeholders decried high levels of understaffing as one of the reasons accounting for poor scores by local learners in national examinations.
Parents have also noted that most of the teachers who had been transferred to the area had lost morale, hence affecting their input at school.
The governor who was speaking at the Salvation Army church in Mumias said the County has plans of setting aside Sh120 million-bursary kitty for students in all the 60 wards in the County.
“We will disburse Sh120 million to support the ward based bursary kitty to ensure that needy students remain in school and realize their dream,” he said.
At the same time, the governor called on elected leaders to come together and share ideas on how to improve service delivery and develop the region.
