County set for Madaraka celebrations

Politics are expected to rock Nyandarua County’s Madaraka day celebrations on Wednesday as politicians take advantage of the public holiday to publicize their bids.

County Commissioner Amos Mariba, while confirming that all was set for the day, noted that the celebrations will also take place at Sub county level, presided over by the respective Deputy County Commissioners.

Mr. Mariba, called on the members of the public to grace the occasions that will be crowned by the bands and President Uhuru Kenyatta’s speech.

“We are expecting the local politicians to grace the national celebrations and as champions of democracy that is a recipe for good governance, we will give them a platform to air their manifestos,” noting that the administrators would not hesitate to deny any rogue politician a chance.

He called on the politicians to positively critique their opponents and avoid inciting crowds for a peaceful celebration.

Gubernatorial contestants Francis Kimemia, Moses Kiarie among others are likely to choose on the populous North Kinangop and Ol Kalou constituencies, to sell their bids.

“It is a wait and see situation for us since the public holiday will offer them a free platform to address the citizens.

“We are however appealing to our politicians to avoid insults and inciting wananchi against their opponents, but instead sell their manifestos,” noted David Kamau, a resident of Kasuku town.

In Ndaragwa Sub County, the celebrations would be held at Ndaragwa stadium, with the newly established Gathanji, Aberdare and Wanjohi Sub Counites, expected to hold separate celebrations from their mother units of Nyandarua West, Nyandarua North and Kipipiri respectively.
