DCC alarm over mobile phones in exam centres

The rule that prohibits the use of mobile phones during Kenya National Examination Council should be strictly adhered to during the ongoing Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education exam.

Lugari Sub-County Deputy Commissioner Moses Gicharu while addressing 34 secondary schools’ principals from Lugari during official start of KCSE exams outside his office ground today warned that the head teachers should keep the mobile phones for the entire team supervising exams including those for security officers.

Gicharu directed head teachers to ensure no one uses the mobile phone around examination areas except at designated points and only if need be.

“Your entire team supervising and guarding exams are mandated to give you their mobile phones until the time the exam is over,” Gicharu told the secondary school principals who are the exam centre managers.

He said those who will not comply with the directive should be reported to him immediately for action.

“Please let me know immediately those who decline to give you their phones so that I take action,” Gicharu emphasised.

The DCC noted that the entire examination team including his office were committed to ensure credibility of this year’s KNEC exams is not lost.

He added that school principals should ensure the exam rules are not compromised.

At the same John Wepoghe, the Sub-County Teachers Service Commission Director asked the centre managers to report any drunkard invigilating teacher.

Wepoghe said that they will not tolerate any drunkard exam team players. He added that teachers were fully aware of the consequences awaiting such drunkard teachers.

“I ask you to help us identify those teachers who appear in exam centres while intoxicated so that we can replace them,” he said.

There are 34 secondary KCSE exam centres and one adult education centre for the exams this year in Lugari Sub-County. A total of 3,266 candidates are taking the exam.
