A Murang’a based boy-child empowerment crusader, Joseph Kibugi, has commended the Deputy President’s wife Pastor Dorcas Rigathi on her initiative to empower boys and young men terming it very timely.
Speaking during an event organized to counsel young men in Kigumo constituency, Kibugi urged members of the public to come forward and support the boy-empowerment initiatives which he added will bring many benefits to the society.
The benefits, he added include reducing crime rates and strengthening the family unit that has been adversely affected by alcohol and drug abuse.
He applauded Mrs Rigathi for her initiative to empower boys and young men emphasizing, “As mentors and boy-child empowerment champions, we will support this initiative so that all members of the community will be empowered both financially and socially. Hopefully this initiative will improve the standing of future generations of men.”
“Many young men have become dependent on alcohol and other drugs and empowering them from a young age could reduce the levels of addiction and make them productive members of the society,” he added.
Kibugi said they have been mentoring and organizing activities that engage and inspire boys and young men both businesswise and on how to become responsible members of society.
“By doing this we hope to reduce dependency on drugs and make more young men responsible members of the society,” he said adding that having the Deputy President’s wife support is a big boost to the boy child empowerment efforts.
Kibugi noted many young men facing various hardships in life do not have proper support systems and hoped that this initiative will address this challenge.
Last week Mrs Rigathi announced plans to introduce nationwide financial empowerment programs targeting boys and young men.
She noted that the empowerment projects aimed at giving young men financial freedom as well as rehabilitating those lost to alcoholism and drug abuse to transform them into responsible citizens.
