The First Lady of the United States, Jill Biden, is set to visit Kenya in the next month or
so, according to the Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs (CS) Alfred Mutua. The visit,
which is being planned for February or March, is in response to an invitation extended
by Kenya’s First Lady Rachel Ruto.
The invitation was extended during the US-Africa leadership summit, when President
Ruto and his spouse were in the United States for a visit to the White House. During her
visit to Kenya, Dr. Biden will focus on issues including education and the monitoring of
US initiatives in the country, such as development programs.
As a professor of English and lifelong educator, Dr. Biden has a strong interest in
community colleges and has raised awareness about women and breast cancer
prevention. More details about her visit will be released soon, according to CS Mutua.
In an interview with Jeff Koinange Live on Citizen Television, he said that Kenya’s
Foreign Affairs ministry is focusing on trade with foreign nations, rather than aid, and
aims to provide opportunities for Kenyans to get international jobs and open trade
opportunities for Kenyans overseas.
