A Lake Victoria based cage fishing organization, Victory farms limited has embarked on empowering small-scale farmers in the lake region through distribution of fingerlings.
Speaking to journalists at a Homa Bay hotel Thursday, the company’s public relations officer Dan Obado said apart from empowering fish farmers, the organisation was also involved in health care support.
He said the company had constructed a hospital in Kibwogi, which is one of the remote islands in Lake Victoria.
Obado urged the county government and the local leaders in the island to support the initiative and ensure that the hospital’s launch was successful.
In their quest to empower the small-scale farmers, Obado said they have organised a fingerling donation campaign in Homa Bay County on October 7, 2022.
This move would enable the small-scale fish farmers to increase their production, hence fight back the influx of fish from china in the local markets.
He said some other counties that are targeted with the donation of fingerlings include Migori, Siaya, Busia and Kisumu.
“This will help in realisation of the company’s goal of producing fish that would feed the whole region,” Obado added.
He however urged the residents of Homa Bay County to support the organisation because it has provided employment opportunities to many people.
The Public Relations Official also told the leadership of the areas where they operate not to politicise their development plans as it would curtail their progress.
