A former schoolteacher who was dismissed by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) for defiling a student has been arraigned before a Kericho Court on charges of sexually assaulting five girls aged between the ages of 8 and 12 years.
The accused Nicanor Kirwa Yego who appeared before Kericho Senior Resident Magistrate Fredrick Nyakundi on Wednesday denied committing the offenses on diverse dates between June 2021 and 13 July 2022 at Master ‘B’ village in Belgut sub-county within Kericho County where he sexually assaulted five girls aged 12, 11, 10, 7 and 8 years.
He also faced alternative charges of committing indecent acts with children, charges that he denied.
The prosecution asked the court to deny bail for the accused and proceed with the hearing at Kericho prison as his life will be in danger as members of the public were likely to lynch him.
The prosecution further argued in their application that the accused had no fixed abode and hence a flight risk if granted bail.
The court heard that the accused was a repeat offender with the prosecution producing documentary evidence to ascertain the same.
A dismissal letter dated 31 July 2017 from Teachers Service Commission produced in court indicated that the accused used to be a teacher and was dismissed from the service after he sexually assaulted a student of Kapsabet School for the Deaf Vocational Training Centre.
The accused lawyer told the court that the reasons projected by the prosecution were not compelling stating that those facing capital offenses are given bond and that his client was not a security threat.
“I do hereby allow this application by the prosecution and do order that the accused person to remain in custody till all the minors have given their evidence then the court may revisit the issue of bond terms,” said Nyakundi.
The accused was escorted to Kericho GK annex prison where he is being held in remand. The case was fixed for hearing on 5 August 2022.
