Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza has today unveiled her 10-member executive committee that she described as an able team that will help her deliver her promises to the people.
The Governor who read out the academic qualifications of each member said the team was qualified and ready to work in bringing changes in their respective departments.
“I am confident that this team will help me in overcoming various challenges that the county is facing at the moment which will help us to realise sustainable development and as a result make Meru a happy county,” she said.
To enhance transparency and accountability, the governor said each executive member would be required to make public, through various media outlets the development steps they have made in their respective departments.
“We are sending a warning to the executive members that those who will appear to be sleeping on their jobs will be fired with an immediate effect,” said the Governor.
She also added that the executive embers will be required to work as a team with a view to achieving the wider goal of enhancing development in the county.
The executive members include Dr George Gikunda Mungania (Health Services), Dr Bishop Kiambi Athiru (Water, Irrigation, environment, climate change, and natural resources), Esther Karimi Njeru (Trade, Tourism, investment, and cooperatives), Ms Monicah Kaithiori Kathono (Finance and economic planning), Revered Caroline Karia Kaberia (Agriculture, Livestock, fisheries, and Veterinary services.
Others are Ms Casty Kaimuri Micheni (Youth, Sports, gender and social development, Mr Dickson Munene Nkanata (Legal affairs public service management and administration, Ithana Thuranira Joseph (Education, science, culture ICT and arts), Murungi James Muthomi (Roads, energy and public works), and Mr Japhet Ndumba Ithinji (lands, physical planning, and urban development).
The governor appointed Mr Simon Thuranira Athiru as the Chief legal advisor and Denis Muriungi Mugambi as the Chief medical advisor. Mwangaza also retained Mr Rufus Miriti as the County secretary after serving in Governor Kiriatu Murungi’s five-year regime.
She also appointed her spouse Murega Baichu as the patron of the Meru Youth Service as well as the hustlers’ ambassador in the county, roles she said will not attract any salary.
The executive committee team is expected to undergo vetting by the county assembly once they get back from the induction program that is currently underway.
