Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe has called upon the leaders and residents of Laikipia County to preach and maintain peace before, during and after the general election.
Speaking in Rumuruti town in Laikipia County while issuing over 2000 title deeds to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), the CS asked the residents to maintain peace and not hate their neighbors over politics.
“We need to practice civilized politics as a country and especially Laikipia county. If you get hurt fighting over politicians, nobody that is vying will help you get treatment. Peace in the country should be observed. We are a civilized people and country. Laikipia needs to be secure and if you lose elections there will be another day to contest,” said Kagwe.
He at the same time asked residents that received their title deeds to use the privilege to develop their pieces of land. He urged the land owners to get loans from banks using the title deeds as collateral and make their lands productive.
He argued that land with a title deed is enough capital of production that would enable the beneficiaries to take their children to school and feed them well.
The CS also said that the government was aware of the drought and famine in Laikipia and promised to continue distributing relief food through the county government.
On his side, Laikipia County Commissioner Joseph Kanyiri warned people that are using social media in the region to spread hate messages during the campaigning period that the law will catch up with them.
He also said that they have been moving from region to region preaching peace.
Laikipia Deputy Governor John Mwaniki thanked the national government for the timely issuance of title deeds in the region. He also asked the government to ensure that there is timely delivery of relief food in the region.
