Homa Bay MCAs Demand Sh.40 Million from Assembly.

Over 50 members of the Homa Bay County Assembly (MCAs) are demanding Sh.40 Million from the Assembly they claim was irregularly deducted from their pay.

Speaking to the press yesterday, the MCAs led by Kendu Bay town ward Maurice Ogwang said that the amount they are demanding were deductions from their salaries which were never remitted to local authorities prudent trust fund.

“The Sh.40 million that we are demanding is from our salary deductions which have never been remitted to Local Authority Prudent Trust fund among other deductions and not a send-off package,” said Ogwang.

The Kendu Bay MCA added that some discrepancies were perpetuated which include the NHIF money worth 1700 per member totalling to Sh.622 200 among others.

The members also called for thorough investigations on the activities of the Acting Clerk Faith Apuko by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission.

On her part, Apuko claimed that the MCAs are threatening her yet they are demanding the 40 million as their sendoff package adding that she was committed to ensuring prudent utilization of public funds.

“I have been under pressure by the MCAs who threatened me that if I don’t release the money, then I will lose my job, but this will not stop me from protecting the public funds,” said Apuko.

Tension was high at the County Assembly premises forcing the clerk to direct all staff to stay at home until the situation was brought under control which made her write to relevant authorities for security purposes.

On the other hand, the MCA representing people with disability Edwin Kakach told journalists to be objective in their reporting.
