Homa Bay Residents Warned Against Concealing Criminals

Homa Bay County Commissioner, Moses Lilan, has warned residents against hiding criminals, especially thieves amongst themselves in the community.

This comes barely two months after detectives in Homa Bay arrested six suspects operating as a gang who engaged in robbery with violence, burglary and other criminal activities in the area.

Speaking during the coronation of Chief Joseph Ochogo, as the County Senior Principal Chief in Homa Bay Town, Lilan said that Homa Bay has experienced a lot of insecurity cases which have hindered development in the region.

“Security is the foundation for development. Where there is no security, there is no development,”’ said Lilan.

The County Commissioner urged the residents to stay vigilant and shun hiding criminals as such acts can escalate insecurity in the region.

He lauded the residents for having maintained peace during and after the recent General Election.

“Being a collective responsibility, I’m calling upon everyone to get involved so that we can work as a team to ensure that we are safe,” said the County Commissioner.

He said that the Nyumba Kumi initiative has also played a vital role in enhancing security in the society, therefore, chiefs should ensure that it is embraced in the villages.

The Administrator stated that it is through hard work in ensuring proper security in his area that has made Ochogo clinch into a new position, but also reminded him that it comes with a lot of responsibilities.

‘’This position is not all about salary increments, but comes with extra responsibilities,” he said.

Lilan also urged members of the County, especially women and youths, to embrace business as a source of income instead of depending on white collar jobs.

He reiterated that they should take advantage of the projects that were promised by the President in his recent visit in the County, which will take the bottom-up approach.

“I want to encourage our women and youths to form groups for the efficiency of the bottom-up economic system,” he said.
