A Kenya Certificate of Primary Education candidate from Kakindu Primary School in Gikuru sub-location in Mwea Sub-county, Embu went missing yesterday evening after sitting day one papers.
According to area Chief Charles Ngari, 17-year-old Kennedy Macharia Kanini disappeared after he was sent to fetch water at Thiba River using an ox cart by his mother at around 5 pm.
He said the boy never returned home prompting a search to be mounted by villagers who only found his shoes and the cart beside the river.
The Chief said they cannot rule out drowning while swimming given the abandoned shoes or he may have been attacked by crocodiles or hippos that lurk in the river.
He said a search has been mounted for the missing boy.
