KeNHA set to implementing social infrastructure projects

The Kenya National Highways Authority is set to begin the implementation of social infrastructure projects following the completion of project designs.

In a meeting with the County Secretary Peter Eripete, a team from KeNHA led by Eng. Phinehas Webi said that project designs had been concluded and implementation teams are in the county for groundworks ahead of project initiation in January next year.

The 23 social infrastructure projects are spread across the five sub-counties along the A1 road. He said KENHA is in the county with a technical project team to familiarize themselves with the sites for the proposed projects.

CS Eripete called for better coordination with the County Government in line with the MoU signed with KENHA. He said the involvement of county technical teams in the implementation will ensure the sustainability of the projects.

CS added that there was a need of having a joint technical team in reviewing the projects and asked the KENHA team to share the draft design to be reviewed by county engineers.

During the meeting, County Attorney Erastus Ethekon stated that there was a need of reviewing the existing MoU and proposed closer collaboration in the implementation of the project.

In attendance was KeNHA’s Eng. Fred Olang’o and Stakeholder Liaison Officer Eng. Philemon Kilimo.

Senior County Government officials present in the meeting were Ag. Chief Officers Mark Amiyo (Trade, Enterprise Development and Cooperatives), Evaristus Lokidap (Livestock Development), Shemmy Ebulon (Lands and Physical Planning), Dr Gilchrist Lokoel, (Health and Sanitation), Stephen Eregae (Education, Sports and Social Protection); Directors Clement Nadio (Environment) and Tito Ochieng (Water Services).
